Oh December, How I Love Thee!

December is my favorite month of the year.  It means Christmas.  And Christmas rocks my world.  Not only because of the decorations, food, time spent with family and giving gifts . . . it's more than that.  MUCH more.  It is a celebration to remember the birth of my Savior, Jesus, who humbly entered the world to ultimately pay the price for my sins . . . for your sins, by His death on the cross; and His resurrection three days later means that I now serve and worship a LIVING God.

A few years ago one of my colleagues commented on a Faith Hill Christmas program she had watched on television the night before.  Faith's closing song was called, A Baby Changes Everything.  My colleague stated that she thought the song was stupid because "babies don't change things".  I was not actually a part of this conversation, but I overheard her make these comments to someone else.  I did nothing to follow-up on an opportunity I may have had to explain to her exactly who that baby is in Faith Hill's song.  And even if it weren't Jesus that Faith was singing about, I do believe that every baby changes the lives of those around them.  Babies, whether God's son, my own son or my best friend's daughter, DO, in fact, change everything.

The baby Faith Hill refers to in her song DID change the world the day He was born--not only for his mother Mary, but for ALL mankind.  He is my savior and I love him so.  He died for me.  And He died for you.  It doesn't matter what path you are currently on, He is there, waiting for you to trust in Him and make him part of your life.  Can you hear Him knocking on your heart?

I truly hope that this December, beyond all the busyness and expectations you and others put on you--to be at the party, to give the perfect gift, to bake a dozen different types of cookies, to sing the right songs . . . . that you will recognize the reason behind all of it--Jesus.  He makes life worth living!

A Baby Changes Everything
Faith Hill

Teenage girl, much too young
Unprepared for what's to come
A baby changes everything

Not a ring
On her hand
All her dreams and all her plans

A baby changes everything

The man she loves she's never touched
How will she keep his trust

A baby changes everything

And she cries, oh she cries
She has to leave, go far away
Heaven knows she can't stay

A baby changes everything

She can feel it's coming soon
There's no place, there's no room

A baby changes everything

And she cries and she cries O she cries
Shepherds all gather 'round
Up above the star shines down

A baby changes everything

Choir of Angels say
Glory to the newborn king

My whole life has turned around
I was lost but now I'm found

A baby changes everything
everything, everything, every day

Hallelujah!

That song brought tears to my eyes. And what a beautiful picture of Mary and her son. Seems so real. Today we sang "Mary Did You Know" in our church, and I could barely sing through my tears. Now that I have had a son, that song has new meaning.
