A New School Year

Today I am thankful for . . .

740.  The gift of A New Year at Our Homeschool.  That's right . . . the boys started school today, and it went really well.  I'm really excited about one subject in particular this year, and that is Social Studies/History.  I really wish I would have discovered this curriculum two years ago when we initially began, because I'm not sure if Mitchell is going to get the entire package by the time he gets to high school.  We are going back in history to the beginning of time--starting in Genesis and this year we'll study up to the time period of the resurrection.  The curriculum is called The Mystery of History, and it is a Bible-based approach to learning ancient world history.  There are three more books that follow, which will take us another three years to complete--but the curriculum guides students through history from the beginning of time up to present-day, all through the lens of the Bible. 

741.  The gift of Reconnecting with My Co-Workers.  Today I got to see two out of three of my co-workers, at our school division all-staff meeting; I was happy to locate them in the sea of 1,300 other people.  I enjoy the people I work with and I am looking forward to getting back to teaching with them this year.

742.  The gift of Celebrating the Life of a Friend.  Tomorrow is the birthday of my friend who is 13-years my senior; however, I've never really considered her to be that much older than me, and I really appreciate having her in my life.  We went for coffee to a specialty coffee shop, and I really wanted a London Fog beverage (not coffee, I know, but they sell more than just coffee drinks at this particular coffee shop); they had no Earl Grey tea, which is an essential ingredient in a London Fog (they actually tried to tell me that they could make a London Fog with an alternate tea:(  NOT POSSIBLE!), so I had to choose another drink.  I chose a Mochaccino, which was very tasty as well.
