More Scripture

Surely you know.

Surely you have heard.

The LORD is the God who lives forever,

who created all the world.

He does not become tired or need to rest.

No one can understand how

great his wisdom is.

He gives strength to those who are tired

and more power to those who are weak.

Even children become tired and need to rest,

and young people trip and fall.

But the people who trust the LORD

will become strong again.

They will rise up as an eagle in the sky;

they will run and not need rest;

they will walk and not become tired.

Scripture

In your lives you must think and act like Christ Jesus.

Christ himself was like God in everything.

But he did not think that being equal with

God was something to be used for his own benefit.

But he gave up his place with God and made

himself nothing.

He was born to be a man

and became like a servant.

And when he was living as a man,

he humbled himself and was

fully obedient to God,

even when that caused his death--

death on a cross.

So God raised him to the highest place.

God made his name greater

than every other name

so that every knee will bow to

the name of Jesus--

everyone in heaven, on earth,

and under the earth.

And everyone will confess

that Jesus Christ is Lord

and bring glory to God the Father.

Philippians 2: 5-11 NCV

Every Lady Bug's A Winner!

I'm so excited to post the name of the winner of my cookbook, Kimmy's Collection of Recipes, which I've been frantically working on all week. Today my printer quit functioning, so I've been a bit stressed over how to get this book published and mailed out to my winner in a timely fashion. Hopefully my winner will be understanding and realize this glitch in publication has caused a delay in the whole process of sending out her prize.

But, enough of my lamenting.

I'm going to reveal who the winner is.

It's Lady Bug at Lady Bugs and Lily Pads!

CONGRATULATIONS!

Thank you to all of my participants in this contest. This was so fun! I hope someone else will be as brave as Shannon was and consider promoting another contest similar to this one in the future.

Friday's Feast #153

Describe a toy you remember from your childhood.

The toy I am about to describe is like no other of its kind. And it is very dear to my heart. My dad built a huge Barbie house for me when I was 11 years old. I know that in today's world 11 seems a bit old to (still) be playing with Barbies. But honestly, I didn't give up Barbies till I was almost 13, so I still had a couple of years to play with my Barbie house until I was "too old" to play with it.

After the Barbie house was built, my mom wallpapered and carpeted it. She also sewed little curtains for all the windows. The windows were made out of plexi-glass. The living room had a sliding patio door. And there was a huge staircase too!

I received the house a couple of weeks before Christmas. And on Christmas morning, I was the recipient of most of the furniture required for my house. Over the years I had accumulated a few choice items of furniture, but I tell you, that Christmas, my mom went all out!!! I will now list the items contained in my Barbie house (I didn't received this all at once . . . ): Kitchen sink and stove, fridge, china cabinet, table and chairs, a fireplace, wicker furniture for the living room, a piano, a complete bedroom ensemble
(a bed, night stand, vanity and closet) which had lights that actually worked , another bed (made out of Styrofoam--but hey, the Barbies didn't care!), a toilet, bathroom sink, bathtub, washer and dryer, plus some more furniture for the second bedroom, which was made out of boxes and the like. But it was so amazing!! I love that Barbie house, even today. It is currently kept at my parent's house and all of my nieces, some nephews and my very own boys have enjoyed playing with it! Yes, it's that cool.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how observant are you?

I'll say a 9.5 out of 10. I am a "watcher" by nature. I like to take note of both trivial and not-so-trivial things in the world around me.

Salad

Where would you rather be at this very moment?

In my warm comfy bed next to my husband. But alas, I've got a cookbook to produce, for crying out loud! And I want my winner to be happy with it. A lot of my time has been consumed this week by creating my cookbook prize. But really . . . I'm loving every minute of it!

Main Course

When was the last time you learned something new?

Just today; I learned how to thin carrots in my garden.

Dessert

Fill in the blank: I have a very catastrophic fridge at the moment but I haven’t made it a priority to clean it! (The recipe book, remember?)

UPDATE!!!!
July 25, 2007

I've been working hard at creating my cookbook for the winner of my bloggy prize contest!

I am having so much fun doing this!

Here's a sneak peak:

The really cool thing about my recipe book is that the recipes are completely protected by plastic, and the book is capable of standing upright! All by itself! So, when you're in the kitchen cooking and baking, the recipes won't be damaged by food splatter, and you will have an easier time following the recipes because of the handy-dandy stand-up mechanism.

Did I mention that I'm loving this? Oh yeah. I did. But it's so fun! It's always been a goal of mine to create my very own cookbook, and now it's becoming a reality! I can hardly wait to give it away . . .

Please remember to leave me your e-mail address with your comment. If you have a blog, you need to provide access to your User Profile in order for me to link back to your blog. There are some entries that I will not be able to include in the draw due to the fact that I have no way of linking back to a blog or e-mail. I'm sad about this, but in Bloggerville, it's hard to trace back links if they're not provided. Thanks!!!!

Plow Winds

In the wee hours of Saturday morning (3:30 a.m.) we were all awakened by a very loud thunderstorm. Along with the thunder and lightening came hail and winds up to 100 km per hour. Upon inspection of our house, outbuildings, vehicles and yard the next morning, we discovered minimal damage. Except to the garden.

I was devastated by what I saw. Just a few posts ago I was thanking God for the bountiful harvest that seemed to be coming our way. But those dreams were shattered when I saw what effect the plow winds had on our garden. It looked like a huge rolling machine came in and rolled everything down as flat as it could. The corn in particular took a beating. Near tears, I shared my feelings with Wayne about how devastated I was that our garden was ruined. We both agreed that likely most of the vegetables might pull through--but not the corn. We all worked at pulling it back up, encouraging it to lean upwards instead of downwards, but it was no use. Our corn was finished. My dreams of eating fresh corn-on-the cob dripping in butter in a few weeks were now over.

This is what I saw when I went to inspect the garden:

Wayne put things into perspective for me, though. He informed me that yes, the garden suffered damage. But our house (minus one shingle), our vehicles, our outbuildings and the rest of our landscaping appeared unscathed. We were all okay. Things could have been worse.

Then, as we left for the city to run errands, I was reminded even more of God's hand in the storm, and how we actually had been saved from a worse outcome. Many of the farmers' fields in our area were damaged worse than our corn. For them, this is their livelihood. For me, the garden is not quite so important. As we travelled along, witnessing the damage beyond our own little world, I was grateful. I was grateful for God's protection of our family. And His provision beyond my expectations.

Now, two days later, my garden is pretty much back to normal. Even the corn. I did not expect the corn to survive. But in my desperate plea to save the corn, I believe God is honoring my request. Today we're picking peas for preparation to freeze and yesterday we had our first meal of potatoes from our garden! God is good! All the time.

And F.Y.I. . . . in my last post about the garden I mentioned how we had gone a bit crazy with the amount of vegetables we'd planted just for a family of four--well, our intention is to share our blessings with others less fortunate.

The Pets Keep Pouring In!

Several weeks ago we were blessed with two kittens from our closest country neighbors. Remember Sharla? She's the one who had a C-section and was near death as a result of it. Well, I'm SO pleased to report that she's doing amazingly well! Her kids gave Mitchell and Tyrone the kittens. The boys are loving their feline friends! Here are some pictures . . .

On a scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 being highest) how much do enjoy watching sports on television?
8. I do enjoy watching sports on television. But if I were to rate the frequency of watching sports on television I'd have to say 1. I used to watch a lot more sports on TV. But my husband isn't a huge sports fan, so we choose to spend quality time involved in other activities that we equally enjoy.

Soup
If you could completely memorize any one work of fiction, which one would you pick?
Anne of Green Gables.

Salad
What is your favorite breakfast food?
Eggs Benedict. Unfortunately, eating this for breakfast is a rare occurrence. However, I have mastered this dish and it happens to be one of my husband's favorites too. Now I've got a craving.

Main Course
Name something fun you can do for less than $10.00.
My own pedicure.

Dessert
How long does it usually take you to fall asleep?
That depends on what kind of day I've had and whether or not something major is consuming my mind. Normally, it takes about 15 minutes; However, there have been times where I haven't fallen asleep at all, but my days of worrying all night about something are becoming less and less frequent of late.

My Thumbs are Getting Greener

Flowers from my perennial garden

I grew up in a home where a garden was always growing (so long as the season permitted). My mom has an amazing green thumb when it comes to growing plants, flowers and vegetables. I was never much of a gardener. While she loved to spend her summer days outside, I spent most of my time inside. As soon as I was old enough, I became the baker, the cook and the housekeeper during the summer months. This freed-up my mom's time for the outdoors and we both liked this arrangement. I'm not a huge fan of the sun so staying inside where it was cooler during the summer suited me just fine.

My first attempt at growing plants in my apartment was a complete failure. Likewise, when Wayne and I bought our first house, my plants didn't thrive. They died. We attempted a vegetable garden at our former residence, but the soil was so rocky that nothing grew. My flowerbeds did okay. And the plants I had in planters on my deck did great as far as I was concerned; until I'd see my mom's and my sister's potted plants. Then I felt like I was failing again. I resigned myself to the fact that I was not, nor would I ever be, gifted with a green thumb.

Last fall when we were starting the process of buying the acreage we now call home, one of the first things my husband did was check out the garden area. It was big. It still is. I was checking out the flowerbeds and made an attempt to envision what springtime and summer would look like in our yard. Unfortunately, it was mid-September, and the growing season was over. Plus, it was obvious that the flowerbeds hadn't been given any attention that summer and they were, to put it mildly, a mess.

So, this spring when things started popping out of the ground, it was quite an adventure. Not being overly knowledgeable about the plant world, I brought in the expertise of my mom to identify the perennials. We decided that this year we would allow everything to grow that had been previously planted and just see how it looked. I didn't want to plant new perennials without knowing what was going to appear as the weather became warmer. So far, so good. Aside from the weeds, I'm quite pleased with my existing flowerbeds with a few minor exceptions. While I'm no expert on plants and flowers, I do like them. And I like lots of them. So, I guess you could say that apart from one of my existing flowerbeds, I will be adding more plants in future years.

But my biggest reason for addressing this issue of gardening concerns my vegetable garden. Honestly, I had no hope for my garden. Due to mine and Wayne's lack of experience and previous experience of nothing growing in our last gardening attempt, I had little faith in myself to actually be the recipient of a bountiful harvest. But I've been proven wrong. I'm overwhelmed with how well everything is growing. If all goes well, we will have an abundance of produce! God is blessing us way beyond my expectations.

What I find most baffling about our garden is the fact that, despite the weeds, our supposedly poor soil quality and lack of my natural gardening abilities, our plants are growing. And they're big. We planted our garden late by most standards, but by the beginning of August, most of our vegetables will be ready to eat. Some are already being eaten. We've been enjoying our leaf lettuce for sandwiches and I just made my very first Caesar salad with my very own Romaine lettuce!

Our garden is big. I said that already. But it really is. My husband was overly zealous when deciding on seed quantities, and so we've got over 200 potato plants, 4 rows of corn, 4 rows of peas, 2 rows of carrots, 1 row of cucumbers, 2 rows of lettuce, 6 celery plants, 16 tomato plants, 12 pepper plants (assorted varieties), 100 onions, 15 garlic plants, 5 watermelon plants, 3 pumpkin plants, 1 rhubarb plant, plus dill, cilantro and parsley. Not to mention we also have 4 apple tress and 6 Saskatoon berry bushes. Unfortunately, I missed the harvest of the berries due to my busy week last week. But the apple harvest will not be missed so long as I have anything to do with it.

My goal for this year was to produce enough vegetables to make two things: salsa and relish. If the vegetables yield like I think they will, I will be able to make both the salsa and relish completely from my very own vegetables! Do you know how thrilled I am about this? SO thrilled! I can hardly wait. Every time I go to check on my garden, I get so excited when I notice that yet another pepper has formed, or another tomato. I. Am. So. Excited!

Seven weeks ago when Wayne and I were in the middle of planting our garden, my best friend called me. She asked what I was doing. I told her: "We're planting our garden." She was in shock. She informed me that I didn't strike her as a gardener. While I admit that it has never been my forte in the past, I proceeded to inform her that gardener or not, I was doing this out of necessity. My motivation for planting a garden was to save money at the grocery store come late summer/early fall. Not to mention homegrown vegetables are healthier than store-bought. She applauded our intentions, but I think in the back of her mind she wasn't overly hopeful that us greenhorns would do very well. You see, she grew up on a farm and her family had a garden even bigger than ours. And she actually helped her mom in the garden, whereas I didn't.

So, given my friend's skepticism, I have been secretly wanting to prove her wrong. And I think I am. Of course, it's too early to tell for sure. But things are coming along well. Really well. And I do believe my thumbs are getting greener by the day. And I'm actually enjoying my new-found passion. Did I say passion? Well, maybe it's not a passion yet. But I now understand a little bit more of my mom's obsession (can I say that?) with her garden.

Here are pictures of my vegetable garden:

Oh How I Missed This!

Daphne and I just prior to her departure this morning.

Amazingly enough, I am still in touch with all three of my bridesmaids on a level that, when we meet up after a long absence, we just continue on with each other as if we've never been apart. Of course there's always lots of catching up to do, but there's never awkwardness. It's just back to communicating like in the "old days".

My maid of honor, Anita, only lives 35 minutes away from me. She and I attend the same church. I used to be her daycare provider before we moved to the acreage. We're in touch with each other by phone practically every-other-day and we see each other weekly.

My second bridesmaid, Daphne, and I are pictured above. I'll get to her in a minute.

My third bridesmaid, Liesa, lives close to me too. I try to connect with her every few months by having lunch or coffee together. She's a true gem. She's been recently married and although introverted by nature, communicates openly and freely when we meet. I feel safe with her and I wish I could spend more time with her than I do. But I cherish the fact that she's still part of my life.

Back to Daphne. She lives in Manitoba, and the last time I saw her was 4 years ago. She just left this morning with her family after arriving on Sunday. Being back together with her was wonderful. She's a step mom too, so I got to get to know her two stepdaughters and toddler a little bit better over the past several days.

It was so great for me to have company over because I finally relaxed in my own back yard! Up until now, the yard has just been a place for me to work in; to upkeep; I haven't really had a chance to enjoy it. I know that sounds strange, but that's what acreage life is like. Just when you've finished mowing everything and weeding (not everything, but as much as you can), it all begins again. It's just a cycle. And so it's hard to sit down and relax in the great outdoors because it can become a constant reminder of all the work that you haven't done yet. So, having my friend visit forced me to a place to just sit. And talk. And talk. And talk.

Daphne requested that I assist her in highlighting her hair by using a home-highlighting kit. What would have taken a hairdresser only an hour to complete took me hours. My assigned task was to pull thousands of hair through tiny holes in a plastic cap with the aid of a crochet-hook type tool, followed by the actual coloring process. It was fun. And time consuming. But the end result was quite nice. I think I will now call Daphne "Blondissimo".

It was during my new-found love of hair-dyeing that my friend and I were able to discuss the quandaries of life in the areas of parenting, step-parenting, marriage, spirituality, friendship, finances, aging and hair. Like I said, it's like we never left. We just kept on where we left off four years ago. It's not that we haven't spoken to each other since we last saw each other. We have. But it's just different when you meet up face-to-face.

Reflecting on friendships from my past and present have made me a bit nostalgic for the good old days of attending Bible College (that's where I met all three of my bridesmaids) and then living in Saskatoon as roommates with my maid of honor and being closer to the other girls distance-wise. And although our lives have taken different twists and turns in the past ten years, these women have impacted me. They have helped create who I am today. All three have been sounding boards for me for different concerns. They've shown their care in tangible ways. I'm so blessed to have them in my life.

So to Anita, Daphne and Liesa: Thank you! You are precious jewels in my lifelong collection of friends.

More on Seven

Ummm . . . could someone please leave a comment on my post regarding the number seven, which was posted on 07-07-07? The next person who leaves a comment will be the SEVENTH commenter and that would really, really, make my day!!

I'm thinking that most people would want to leave a comment after comment #6 because it would just make it so cool to have a post about the number 7 have 7 comments. I could write a comment, but I'd rather that one of my friends do it. Please, will you?

Thanks!

P.S. Am I getting obsessive over this number 7 stuff or what??!! It's fun.

**UPDATE** My good friend Kim has left the seventh comment. THANK YOU! Now please, no more comments. Please. If the comments exceed seven, I will have to raise the bar and ask for seventeen.

Admitting Defeat

Okay, so I admit it. Summertime blogging isn't as easy to keep up with as it is in winter. I've been trying to post daily, but I've resigned myself to the fact that I can only post about once or twice a week right now. I'm still trying to keep up with My Life is RADical but that has been a challenge as well. F.Y.I. if anyone checks that blog today . . . sorry, no post. Check back tomorrow. Hopefully I can get something posted within the next 48 hours.

This week is Vacation Bible School at our church. We live about 35 minutes away from our church, so combined with driving and the actual "Bible School" time, I'm gone from home 5 hours each evening. I'm helping out with registration and wherever else assistance is needed. Tomorrow the entire group is heading off to Redberry Bible Camp FOR THE DAY. My boys are so excited!

I'm excited too, because for the first time in his life, Tyrone is actually attending a church activity without experiencing separation anxiety from his mommy. I thought this day would never come. I'm so grateful for his development in this area over the past four months or so. He's a completely different kid. I praise God for this huge blessing. It's been a long time in coming, but I'm glad "the day" has finally arrived. Just to prove to myself how far Ty's come, I'm not attending the camp day. He doesn't even want me there. Go figure.

In other news . . . one of my best friends in the whole wide world is coming to visit from Sunday to Tuesday. I can't wait to see her. She lives quite far from me and I have yet to meet her baby (who is now 17 months old!!!). Apart from being involved in VBS, my days have been spent getting the house ready for visitors. I can't wait to see my friend. Oh, did I say that already? Yes, I did.

Hope you're having a great day, week and summer!

Gratitude for Ungrateful Days

I've mentioned before that I'm reading a book by Max Lucado entitled, Every Day Deserves a Chance. While I was hoping to get this book read before the boys started their summer holidays, I'm sorry to report that I've only managed to read three chapters of this ten-chapter book thus far. But I am getting somewhere and I'm enjoying the time I have to read, (whenever it actually happens).

The most recent chapter I read was about gratitude. It was definitely something I needed to read that day. The following is an excerpt from the book, which sort of sums up the entire chapter. I hope you will be encouraged by this:
Two types of voices command your attention today. Negative ones fill your mind with doubt, bitterness, and fear. Positive ones purvey hope and strength. Which ones will you choose to heed? You have a choice, you know. "We take every thought captive so that it is obedient to Christ." (2 Corinthians 10:5 God's Word).

Do you let anyone who knocks on your door enter your house? Don't let every thought that surfaces dwell in your mind. Take it captive . . . make it obey Jesus. If it refuses, don't think it.

Negative thoughts never strengthen you. How many times have you cleared a traffic jam with your grumbles? Does groaning about bills make them disappear? Why moan about your aches and pains, problems and tasks?

"Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life." (Proverbs 4:23 NCV).

Seven-Seven-Seven

Have I ever mentioned that my favorite number is SEVEN? I'm sure I have. But I just wanted to remind everyone of that today, since the numerical date is 07-07-07.

I'm not superstitious. I don't put my trust in number combinations. But I just happen to love today's date.

Seven.

Something New: Friday's Feast

Hey, everyone. I don't know about you, but I'm finding that Friday's are one of my most difficult days to think of post topics, let alone having time to actually post anything. But, I've noticed that several of my blogging friends do "Friday's Feast". It's a weekly meme that will reveal more of who I am, where I've been and where I'm going in life.

Enjoy!

Friday Feast #16

Appetizer - What was the first job you ever had?
My first job was babysitting. I got my first regular family at the age of 12 and I continued to babysit for them until I graduated from high school. They had three boys--Jackson, Robert and Dennis. Back then I got paid $2.00/hour. I babysat for many other families as well, but this family was my favorite.

Soup - Name a profession you have always wanted to try.
T.V. News Journalist or the Host of my very own Talk Show.

Salad - Name a profession you would NEVER want to try.
Veterinarian. I love animals too much. I wouldn't be able to handle seeing their suffering so first-hand.

Entree - What is your favorite sound in the world?
Hearing my boys call me "Mommy".

Dessert - If there is a Heaven, what would you like to hear from God when you arrive?
What do they mean, If there is a Heaven?! Of course there is!!! I'd like to hear God say, "Kimberly . . . a woman after my own heart. Welcome."

Random Eight

Amy at Laughing Through the Tears tagged me for his meme. The objective is for me to share 8 tidbits of information about myself for you, my audience, to read. Enjoy. Or not.

1. I knew beyond the shadow-of-a-doubt what I wanted to be "when I grew up" by the age of 15. A secretary. Or, as we are now called today, administrative assistant. Obviously it was not my ambition to make a lot of money with the career I chose. Rather, I wanted fulfillment in my job, using my God-given gifts doing something I knew I'd enjoy. I've never been disappointed with my choice to pursue this as a career.

2. My top three spiritual gifts are administration (no, really?), hospitality and service. It didn't take rocket science to figure out what an appropriate career choice for me would be. It kind of helps when your career and ministry objectives line up. I've worked in both secular and Christian environments. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

3. (I'm loving how these eight tidbits are kind of "melding" together). After high school I had my entire life planned out. This is how it was supposed to be: One year of Bible College followed by one year of Business College to get my Administrative Assistant Diploma (either medical or legal). During that time I'd find my future mate at Bridal School, oops, I mean Bible School, we'd get married after my business college training was over. I'd find a great job. We'd have four kids and live happily ever after. Oh, and my wedding color would be pink. And I'd live in a very pink-oriented house. And I'd have a Bichon Frise dog, maybe even two. And my husband would be so great at his job (not sure what that was going to be, exactly), that I'd never have to worry about finances or that kind of stuff.

4. This is what really happened: I attended one year of school at Bethany Bible Institute in Hepburn, Saskatchewan. I loved it. I decided to return for my second year and earn my Diploma. I did. Husbandless. Boyfriendless, even. I made it through two years of Bible school with not even so much as a boyfriend. I attended Saskatoon Business College and took a 10-month Legal Administrative Assistant course and finished a month early. Another girl beat me by 1% as the student with the highest average for this course. That set me back $500.00 (due to the scholarship she received and I didn't). Rats!! I got a job at a law firm within days of graduating. I was the receptionist. The lawyers were jerks. The secretaries were snobs. I was struggling with my decision to pursue the legal diploma. After all, I was working (in a sense) for criminals of all kinds. I was very lonely and became close to suicidal. My self-esteem was hitting rock-bottom. I felt God urging me to return to Bible school. I thought it was ludicrous! But He kept urging. I obeyed. It was the best thing I could have done.

5. Since my tidbits are so long, I'm breaking this part of "me" into two tidbits. Hope that's okay. Like I said, I returned to Bethany for my third and final year. Since Mr. Right hadn't shown up yet (according to plan), I thought I'd find him back at Bible school. I didn't. But . . . I could have been someone's girlfriend if I would have taken someone up on his offer. Sorry, not exactly my type. Nice try. Anyways, I graduated with a Degree. I got to go to Paraguay for a missions trip. I got to spend my last year of Bible school with my brother Scotty in my class. I made great friends and finally got over my self-esteem issues. I had a new sense of purpose for my life.

6. Continuing on . . . I stayed on at Bethany as one of two Assistant Dean of Women. I lived in the dorm with the female students and was sort of like a dorm parent. This was one of the most rewarding, yet challenging jobs I've ever had. I loved it. I loved working with students. I loved working with the staff. I felt like I had something to offer and my efforts were appreciated.

7. My summers during my "educational years" were spent in various settings. Right after high school I worked as a waitress at a Ukrainian restaurant in the town next to my hometown. I really enjoyed it. This is going to sound bizarre, but I had always wanted to be a waitress. That summer I got my first taste of it. After my first year of Bible school my best friend and I headed off into the great unknown of Banff, Alberta, Canada. I was a breakfast waitress and chambermaid. This job was not ideal. Actually, it was horrible. And I missed my family SOOO much. I was so glad when the summer was over. The summer before attending business college was spent back at the Ukrainian restaurant. After business college I worked at the law firm. After my third year at Bethany I worked at a Bible camp close to home. After my Assistant Deaning position (it ended in April when school ended), I worked at another Bible camp in Northern Manitoba. I love, love, loved it there. The place was SOOO rustic. I'm not rustic. But it didn't matter. The family that ran the camp was SOOO good to me; I hardly even noticed that I was beginning to turn a bit rustic.

8. I'm on number eight already? Oh boy. Gotta wrap this up. Number eight might be long. After camp was over, I wasn't really sure where I would be employed. All I knew was that my best friend and I would be living together in Saskatoon. She had found us an apartment over the summer and I was ready to move in. She was/is a nurse, and her job was all lined up. A couple of weeks before I was to move, the Business Manager from Bethany called me to offer me a job as the Receptionist for the school. Of course, this was a dream-come-true for me and I accepted their offer. I did this for two years. In my second year I met Wayne. We met initially at a wedding of mutual friends, and shortly after he started attending my church's College and Career group (which I had just started up a few weeks prior), and well, the rest is history. If you want to hear more of this "plan for my life" you'll have to wait until I'm tagged for another meme of this nature.

All I can say is . . . At 18 years of age, I had no idea where God would lead me. My plans were definitely not His plans.

Encouragment For You

"Be sure to remember that nothing in your
daily life is so insignificant and
so inconsequential that God will not
help
you by answering your prayer."

God has already made space for us, even if we have not made space for God."

Restaurant Meme

E-mom tagged me for this meme. I live in Saskatchewan, Canada. My five favorite local restaurants are as follow:

1. Fuddruckers. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan has the only Fuddrucker's restaurant in all of Canada. (I just found that out while I was locating a link for Fuddruckers). Fuddruckers' claim to "The World's Greatest Hamburger" holds true for me. I love the fact that I get to create my own burger and have it cooked the way I want. And they serve more than hamburgers. Fuddruckers has a wide selection of menu items, including baked goods prepared in their own bakery. Their chocolate pie is to die for! This restaurant is not only my favorite; it's a family favorite. My boys love this restaurant, especially the breakfasts.

2. Mykonos. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Greek food in full fashion. The atmosphere is peaceful, the service is great. Wayne and I have spent many "special nights" out at this fine dining establishment.

3. Chianti Cafe. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Homemade pasta and sauces. Sunday, Monday and Tuesday pasta frenzy. The gnocchi is one of my favorites, but they've got every kind of pasta dish you could dream of, with many different sauces to choose from. Plus, before your order arrives, you get to munch on french bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. It's delicious!

4. The Keg. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Steak. What more needs to be said?

5. The Great Canadian Bagel. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I love bagels. My husband doesn't. But when I get together with some of my "girl" friends, this is where we like to hang. The fact that we're eating a bagel of our choice (they've got over a dozen types to choose from) smothered in our choice of cream cheese (again, they've got lots of flavors), drinking our Diet Coke and chatting about the mysteries of life, makes female bonding that much more memorable.

The rules for this meme are as follows:
1. Link to name of person that tagged you.
2. Include state (excuse me? that should be Province in my case) and country you live in.
3. List top 5 favorite local restaurants.
4. Tag 5 other people and then let them know they've been tagged. If you're reading this, consider yourself tagged

Oh, Canada! Our Home and Native Land!

http://wwp.canada-ca.net/images/canadian-flag.jpg

Today is Canada Day. We are celebrating today--140 years of Canadian bliss.

We also celebrated my best friend's daughter's birthday. (Did you get all that?) Her name is Mikaela. She just turned 5 years old and both of my boys are in love with her. Ty's more in love with her than Mitchell, but they all adore each other. These three play so well together. They never fight. They are such a joy to watch. My boys never tire of getting together to play with their best girl friend.

It's such a blessing to have the friends that we do. It's great watching our kids grow up together and witnessing their own relationships develop from birth until now. I hope they'll always be friends.
